The Aminta Orchestra performs at prominent venues in and around London, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and St James's Church, Piccadilly, London. It has given twenty-two annual performances at St Martin-in-the-Fields, as well as open-air summer concerts and musical events for young people. On 29 May, 2013, the orchestra presented the sixteenth consecutive annual open-air concert at Barking Abbey, Essex.

The name Aminta originates from a pastoral drama of that title by Torquato Tasso, a sixteenth-century poet born in Sorrento, in which the central character is a shepherd called Aminta. With the approval of the manager of the Grand Hotel Aminta in Sorrento, the name was adopted by the orchestra.
